My Top Three Tips for New Agents

I began with an abundance of enthusiasm, similar to every agent, I’m sure.

I wasn’t prepared for how challenging it was going to be, and I felt alone in my sense of being overwhelmed, frustrated and discouraged.

That initial experience in this field I now love is the basis for writing and sharing my book with new and struggling agents. I don’t think the beginning needs to be that hard, which is why I outlined the book in an easy-to-read format so you can jump to the topic that works for you right now. I’ve packed the book with tips for new real estate agents to minimize your struggle.

I begin the book by sharing how to join a brokerage and what questions to ask. It’s hard to know what to ask when you don’t know what you should know. I’ve got you; it’s in there -- how to find business, how to prepare for an open house, a checklist to help you navigate the buy-side and list-side process of deals. It’s all in there.

My advice for the new agent:

  1. Do your research and join a brokerage that fits what you are hoping for, whether that’s the best split or a firm that offers a lot of training. You decide and align yourself with a company that shares your values.

  2. Find a mentor, one who has the time to be there for you when you need them the most. We have a membership group that offers a safe place for you to land and to get answers to your questions and hear from others who share your journey. You are on your own time clock, but you need to be held accountable.

  3. Pair up with a fellow agent who will role-play and practice scripts with you, or set accountability sessions so you can check in with each other and make sure you’re busy doing the right things to get you and your clients to the closing table. We can all be busy, but are we spending our time on tasks that will lead to making money? That is the question to ask yourself daily.
